Giving Thanks....for Tablescapes

My husband shared with me that his marketing professor was always saying that presentation is 50%. I’m not sure if this is entirely true when it comes to dining experience, but I am willing to give it at least 30%. To me…the food itself is number one. I have had some amazing food from divvy places and even trailers here in Austin.

When it comes to Thanksgiving in my family we have gathered at my grandmothers every year that I can remember. And my grandmother, well, she is a retired interior decorator so you get the full 100% at her house- great food, great service (you have to beg her to sit down and eat as she just keeps helping everybody else) and a decorated table…aka tablescape.

So what are the must do elements of the Thanksgiving tablescape? They’re closely tied to the magic of most well designed rooms in the home which are combinations of:

  • hard surfaces (glasses, plates, silverware, etc. are like furniture to a room!),
  • fabric (napkins, placemats, tablecloths, runners),
  • strategic lighting (almost always candles for ambient lighting and chandelier for direct lighting),
  • accessories (candleholders, figurines, lanterns, etc.)
  • AND nature (flowers, pumpkins, pine cones, and various greenery).

That last ingredient in good tablescapes is a big one with me for Thanksgiving themes. So enjoy the photos and prepare to give your guests an experience that is 100% with great presentation this holiday! Happy Thanksgiving!
